Francis DELIVRÉ, known for his painted and sculpted portraits of celebrities, has sought—beyond mere likeness—to convey something deeper. Thus, with Ray Charles, he set himself challenges: to paint this famous Black singer and musician… as white, and this blind pianist… as sighted; indeed, thanks to his glasses, Ray Charles can say “Listen up,” for his glasses are musical notes… always the interplay of forms that the artist favors and that allows him to explore symbolism.
